FAQs
Common questions about the Foundation, how it works, and how your support helps the firefighters of Tiburon and Belvedere.
-
Why does the community need a Foundation?
The cost of modern fire and emergency response keeps rising, while public revenue grows slowly. A community foundation lets residents, businesses, and grants supplement the District's budget for equipment, facilities, fire prevention, and training, so the District can meet today's all-risk demands without waiting on public funding alone.
-
Is the Foundation part of the Fire District?
No. The Foundation is an independent nonprofit organization. It exists to support the Tiburon Fire Protection District, but it is governed separately by its own volunteer Board of Directors under its own bylaws.
-
What does the Foundation fund?
Equipment, technology, facilities, fire prevention, and training that strengthen fire and emergency response for Tiburon and Belvedere. Priorities are set with the District's needs in mind and approved by the Board.
-
Will my contribution pay firefighter salaries or pensions?
No. Donations to the Foundation are never used for firefighter salaries or benefits. Gifts go to equipment, training, and community safety.
-
Are donations tax-deductible?
Yes. The Tiburon-Belvedere Firefighters Foundation is a nonprofit organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, and contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Our tax identification number (EIN) is available on request. Please consult your tax advisor about your specific situation.
-
Can I direct my gift to a specific need?
Yes. You may designate a gift toward an area of interest, or give an unrestricted contribution, which lets the Foundation and District apply funds where they are needed most.
-
Who oversees how the funds are used?
The Foundation's volunteer Board of Directors governs all funds under the Foundation's bylaws. Disbursements to the District are reviewed and approved by the Board, and the Foundation reports on its activity as required by its bylaws.
